The findings on CBD from this study were as follows:

  • CBD helps to burn more body calories by boosting the mitochondrial population thus increasing their activity in the human cells
  • CBD also activates body proteins and fat genes that facilitate the process of fat breakdown and oxidation
  • CBD was found to cut short the fat cell generation and the proteins that aid in lipogenesis

Can CBD suppress the appetite?

While many people believe the notion that cannabis will increase the appetite for food, scientists recently confirmed that CBD products do not make you hungry.

In a 2018 study, it is shown THC that stimulates the CB1 receptors in the EBS, which among other things stimulates a person’s appetite. The study also notes that CB1 antagonists could help to control obesity and reduce appetite for food as the antagonists deactivate the receptors.

Though CBD does not shut down CB1 receptors, it influences other molecules to do the 'blocking'. The shutting down of these receptors could aid in reducing appetite and potentially supporting weight loss by preventing any unnecessary eating.

As earlier mentioned, a 2012 study showed that when animals such as rats were exposed to CBD, their appetites became suppressed. However while it is believed to have the same impact, it is yet to be proven for certain that this would apply to human beings.
