What is a CBD tincture?
A CBD tincture is a liquid comprised of hemp CBD extract, fractionated coconut oil (medium chain triglycerides), and sometimes natural flavorings such as blood orange, lavender , peppermint, or unflavored. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the many cannabinoids derived from the hemp plant. Urbul's full spectrum tinctures contain 1000mg of cannabidiol along with other beneficial cannabinoids such as CBC, CBG, CBDa, and CBDV. Tinctures are the ideal way for beginners to start taking CBD because it is simple and effortless. Simply uncap the bottle, draw up the oil to your suggested dosage (use our CBD dosage calculator), drip it underneath your tongue, and hold it there for 60 seconds before swallowing.
The membrane under your tongue allows for absorption by your sublingual artery. From there it will travel to your external carotid artery, then through the internal carotid artery, and into your brain.
CBD tinctures are made to be taken orally and we do not recommend vaping it. If you want to vape your CBD instead, please check out our CBD vape starter kits because those formulations are made with a PG/VG blend rather than a MCT blend. Our formulations are rich in cannibinoids, mainly cannabidiol, which provides relief from pain, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia and more.
MCT (medium chain triglycerides) has become a common base for CBD because of its ease of use and fast absorption rate. Unlike a pill or capsule, you can start with a small serving size of CBD oil and gradually increase up to your desired serving or until you start feeling the effects of CBD.
Natural flavorings are often added to the hemp cbd oil to make to taste even better. This is perfect for beginners that don't really like the taste of hemp.
A pure CBD tincture is non-intoxicating and will NOT get you high. In fact, it is federally legal in most states because of the 2019 Farm Bill.
How tinctures are made
Here is the short version of how pure CBD tinctures are made: you take high CBD hemp strains (like Harlequin) and steep it in grain alcohol, then cook it over low heat for multiple hours. After the pure CBD oil is done cooking, mix it with a carrier oil like blood orange or lavender so it will taste better. Pure CBD oil, straight up, can taste bitter.
Is CBD tincture the same as CBD oil?
Yes, a 'CBD tincture' is essentially the same as 'CBD oil'. Both words are often used interchangeably in the CBD industry and there's a 99% chance that they are talking about the same thing. The reason why there are different names for the same product is mainly due to the lack of regulatory guidelines, thus spuring confusion on the product name.
How long does it take for CBD oil to be effective?
When taken sublingually, you can be feel the beneficial effects in as little as 15-25 minutes. However, that is the standard absorption time and it varies from person to person because every person's body is unique. There are a variety of things to consider:
- Body weight - Your body weight has a huge impact on the way CBD (and other medicines) affect your body. But in short, a larger body will require more to produce an effect.
- Metabolism - How fast your body's metabolic rate is will also affect how long it takes for your body to process CBD. Your body's metabolism is in charge of the breaking down of compounds that you consume. The faster it works, the earlier you will see the effects.
- Quality of cannabidiol - Not all CBD is created equal. It's important to find a brand that uses 100% organic hemp and uses proper extraction methods. For example, Urbul uses supercritical Co2 extraction methods to extract CBD. All of our hemp is 100% organic and grown in Colorado. Thus you can expect to feel effects faster than that of a lower quality CBD tincture.
Although CBD tinctures' absorption rates aren't the highest, it is still considered fast. The only two faster ways to consume CBD and feel the effects is through injection and vaping CBD. Consuming CBD via sublingual is the next best thing unless you prefer to carry a needle or a CBD vape with you.
How long does one doseage last?
Again this depends on a variety of factors like your body weight and body composition but the standard time a doseage will last for is 4-8 hours. Our recommendation is to re-up every 6 hours. If you're dealing with pain, anxiety, stress, or insomnia, we recommend you to follow a consistent dosing schedule to really reap the benefits.
After the initial 4-8 hours, CBD will still remain in your body for 8-10 days.
Full spectrum CBD vs CBD isolate
There are two main types of CBD tinctures: full spectrum and CBD isolate.
- Full spectrum CBD - This type of CBD contains cannabidiol (CBD), and other beneficial cannabinoids such as cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabidiolic acid (CBDa), Cannabidivarin (CBDV), and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC, less than 0.3%) which is the federal legal limit.
- CBD isolate - This type of CBD contains ONLY cannabidiol and all other cannabinoids are removed.
There is no better option and both types of CBD have different benefits. One of the benefits of full spectrum CBD is the entourage effect. If you want to learn more about the differences, we have a very lengthly post on Full Spectrum CBD versus CBD Isolate that you can read more on. To summarize, Pure CBD is another name for CBD isolate. Our Urbul CBD tincture blends are crafted with full spectrum hemp CBD.
Be careful of tinctures containing ONLY hemp seed oil. A lot of companies will only use hemp seed oil as the primary ingredient in their "CBD" formulations however these will NOT be potent and you will NOT feel anything from them. At Urbul, we 3rd party batch lab test all of our CBD tinctures for potency to ensure that you are getting exactly what we are advertising. Every single product you buy from us will either come with a physical copy of the lab report and/or a batch ID number that you can search up on our website.
